Felix Chinea

Visiting Medical Student

Felix Manuel Chinea is a visiting third-year medical student from Duke University who is spending a year at Joslin for clinical research experience. With parents from Puerto Rico, he was born in New York and raised both in North Carolina and Georgia due to his father’s military career.

Felix completed his bachelor degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Georgia, where he was also active in several Latino student organizations that promoted political action, advocacy, and volunteerism.

He now attends Duke University School of Medicine where he revived the chapter of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) and served as Co-President for 2 years. Through the Duke chapter of LMSA, he invited Dr. Caballero as a guest speaker where they were also able to plan his one-year visit to Joslin.

Currently, he serves as the Co-President of the LMSA Southeast Region while continuing with his medical education at Joslin. He is currently investigating the impact of group medical visits on diabetes-related outcomes in Latino patients with Type 2 Diabetes. He will also provide assistance with additional LDI community outreach projects.
