Learning Objectives

• Discuss the implications of the epidemic of childhood and adolescent obesity
• Identify recommended screening procedures for overweight and obese children and adolescents to diagnose insulin resistance, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes
• Describe the differences in the clinical presentation, treatment design, and care support needs among  young children and, adolescents, with type 1 diabetes
• Define what components of diabetes treatment design, implementation, management, and support for care and psychosocial needs for children and adolescents with diabetes and their families, including newer treatments and tools, that you have or will develop the capabilities to provide within your practice vs. outsource to regional diabetes specialty centers
• Describe key endocrine conditions frequently seen in children with or without diabetes, how they present, and how you will provide care for them either within or outside of your practice
