Weight Management

Why WAIT?

Weight Achievement and Intensive Treatment (Why WAIT?) is a 12-week multidisciplinary program for weight control and intensive diabetes management.

YOU-Turn

YOU-Turn™ is a unique, intensive, 7-day weight reduction program to help patients with type 2 diabetes who struggle with weight problems.

Individual Appointments

Diabetes patients who are overweight can enroll in Joslin's new program for medically-managed weight loss and fitness led by a team made up of a Joslin physician, dietitian, exercise physiologist and, when needed, a behavioral psychologist.

Patients who are at risk for cardiovascular disease are referred to BIDMC cardiology. Patients may also be referred to the BIDMC bariatric surgery program. Patients without diabetes are referred to the endocrinologists either at BIDMC or at Joslin. These physicians work closely with nutritionists, the BIDMC bariatric surgery program and the BeWell Tanger Center to establish appropriate goals and therapy for sustained weight loss.

The team is under the medical direction of Osama Hamdy, M.D.

For an appointment or more information, call 617-732-2440.

Weight Management Programs for People with Diabetes

Dr. Hamdy is also the director of two highly successful weight management programs.
