Discussion and Support Groups at Joslin

We run groups for teens and young adults with type 1 diabetes to help them meet others and share their experiences. The groups are run by Jessica T. Markowitz, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist who works in the Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Section at Joslin.

All groups meet at the Joslin Diabetes Center.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Coping with Diabetes
  • Living realistically with diabetes
  • Gaining support from others
  • Stress management
  • Problem solving

Support groups will next be held in Spring 2013. To learn more, please contact Yohaira (Jo) Sanchez at 617-309-2594 or yojaira.sanchez@joslin.harvard.edu.

A diabetes support group can provide both educational information and emotional support.  These groups can be a great way to meet others and share your common experiences living with diabetes. You may find a support group helpful because you will hear about what other people do in their daily lives with diabetes, you may be able to figure out solutions to common problems, and you can learn new ideas about how to manage your diabetes. It is also great to hear that other people have the same problems as you and learn how they cope with them.

Diabetes Message Boards/Forum

Joslin has the only Message Boards on the web for people with diabetes that let you chat with the Joslin clinical staff, as well as people with diabetes and their families.
